CHIC Halloween Costumes

BOO-tiful or Spooky, Cast a Spell this HaLoWeeN!

If you've ever said, "I wish I was _______(fill in the blank)", well you can be and Halloween is the day to do it! No restrictions, no worries about what people might say, and no limits as to how many people you could try to imitate on this crazy holiday! That's what makes this day so special and unique from others. People's personalities can come out through the costumes they choose to wear and the people they choose to represent. It gives you insight into what any individual either loves, thinks is funny, supports, wishes to be, etc.

Going back in time, two years ago to be exact, my friend Diana and I chose to create our own costumes inspired by people who we thought were interesting and who we admired. I chose to be Lady Gaga and wore a red lace dress that looked like the one she had worn to the 2009 MTV VMA Awards. This outfit already looked like a costume because of its spiked headpiece and lace covering the face. In my eyes, this was unique, fun, and perfect for Halloween, especially because there were no costumes out there like it. My mom and I bought fabric and made the whole costume ourselves! It was a great way to have fun and bond with her. My friend chose to be Jackie Kennedy because this was a person who she admired and learned a great deal about. Her pillbox hat definitely completed the outfit, and mind you, she actually looks a little bit like Jackie O!

Two years later, back to present day, here we are side by side again in our favorite homemade costumes, except this time we are on Fox TV, Good Day Chicago. I am an intern stylist for Barbara Glass and I dress the models on the fashion segments she does for Fox TV. I was excited to model my own costume for this segment and I asked Diana to model hers with me. Who would have thought we'd ever bust these costumes out again and on television!? We had a gh'oul time and the other models totally rocked their looks as well. Barbara was dressed as the innovative and unique Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld, Kourtney was dressed as the outrageous Nicki Minaj, and Hannah was dressed as the classy and always beautiful Audrey Hepburn from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.      Don't settle for the boring and predictable costumes that show up in Halloween stores every year. Carve your own memories by creating costumes that can wow or scare your friends! There are always things happening in our world to give us inspirations, so park your witches broom and soak it in. I'll leave you  now with some simple advice...be creative, fun, unique, and confident because despite how judgmental people can be, on Halloween day everyone is  free of that. Be safe and have chills and thrills!!
